Instant Mahjong Solitaire is a free Mahjong Solitaire game you play online in your browser, with no download and no account. Match two identical free tiles to remove them, and clear every tile to finish the puzzle. There are 12 layouts from 60 to 144 tiles, every deal is checked to be solvable, and hints, unlimited undo and shuffles help when you get stuck.
How to Play Mahjong Solitaire
Match two identical tiles that are free. A tile is free when it is not covered and at least one horizontal side is open. Remove every pair to clear the board.
Tap Play. First-time players get a short hands-on tutorial on a 10-tile board.
Tap a free tile: nothing on top of it, and its left or right side open. It lights up.
Tap an identical free tile. The pair disappears, often uncovering the tiles underneath.
Tapping a blocked tile shows why it is blocked: which tile covers it, or which neighbours close both sides.
Keep going until the board is empty. Your time, matches and score are saved as a personal best.

Mahjong Solitaire Rules and Tips
Learn how to identify free tiles, uncover blocked tiles, plan your matches and avoid leaving pairs trapped.
Free tiles only. A tile is free when no tile overlaps it from above and either its left or right side is open. Top and bottom neighbours never block.
Work on tall stacks and long rows first. Tiles near the centre of a high stack, and in the middle of long rows, take the longest to free.
When three of a kind are free, think first. Pick the two that unblock the most tiles and keep the third for later.
When all four are free, take both pairs. Removing all four identical tiles can never hurt.
Watch for stacked twins. If two identical tiles sit on top of each other, the other two of that kind are the only way to clear them.
Use Undo freely. There is no penalty, so trying a line and stepping back is part of the strategy.

104 tiles, 4 layers, Medium (cleared by random play 46% of the time). Layered petals opening around a tall heart.
Butterfly
124 tiles, 4 layers, Medium (cleared by random play 45% of the time). Patterned wings around a towering body.
Dragon
118 tiles, 3 layers, Hard (cleared by random play 35% of the time). A winding dragon with a raised spine.
Turtle
144 tiles, 5 layers, Hard (cleared by random play 35% of the time). The classic: 144 tiles on a five-layer shell.
Bridge
98 tiles, 4 layers, Hard (cleared by random play 24% of the time). A high stone bridge on two strong pillars.
Mountain
118 tiles, 5 layers, Expert (cleared by random play 20% of the time). Twin peaks with deep, tall stacks.
Difficulty is measured, not guessed: for each layout we dealt 60 boards and let a computer player pick random legal pairs ten times per board, then counted how often it cleared the board. See Mahjong Solitaire layouts explained.

Is Instant Mahjong Solitaire free?
Yes. It is completely free, with no account and no purchases. Every layout, theme and helper is available by playing.
Can I play Mahjong Solitaire online without downloading anything?
Identical tiles match: the same number of Dots, Bamboo or Characters, the same Wind or the same Dragon. Any Flower matches any Flower, and any Season matches any Season.
Is every puzzle solvable?
Every deal is built from a winning sequence of moves and checked before you see it, so each new puzzle can be cleared. Your own choices can still trap tiles, which is what Undo and Shuffle are for.
What happens when there are no moves left?
The game says so and offers to shuffle the remaining tiles (3 per puzzle), undo your last moves, or restart the puzzle.
Is my progress saved?
Yes, in your browser's local storage. Nothing is sent to a server, so clearing your browser data resets it and progress does not sync between devices. There is no online leaderboard.
Is this the same as the Mahjong played with four players?
No. Mahjong Solitaire is a single-player tile-matching puzzle that uses mahjong tiles. It does not use the rules of the four-player game.
